The test is intended to provide information on the resistance that the mortar joint offers to the penetration of a needle of steel by means of blows generated by a moving mass with constant energy.
This test provides information on the quality and consistency of the mortar along its thickness variation over a study area of the structure under investigation. In particular, the mortar penetrometer in our equipment allow us to:
- Measure the homogeneity of the layer of mortar joint from the outer layer to the inner one in order to check degradation phenomena, carbonation, applications and subsequent interventions.
- Measure the homogeneity of different portions of mortar arranged in different parts of the same structure or neighboring structures.
- to estimate the experimental mechanical resistance of the mortar through the use of correlation curves in relation to the depth of penetration.
